Security Forces Kill 8 Terrorists in Major Bannu IBO: ISPR
Security forces successfully eliminated eight terrorists during a major intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, the military’s media wing confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on November 21 after credible intelligence indicated the presence of militants associated with Indian-proxy Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term officially used for fighters linked with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Militants Involved in Major Terrorist Attacks
ISPR stated that the neutralised terrorists were involved in multiple attacks targeting security forces, law enforcement agencies, and innocent civilians.
Authorities also recovered weapons and ammunition from the site, confirming the militants’ active role in recent terror incidents.
Operations Intensified Under Azm-i-Istehkam
The military highlighted that the IBO reflects strengthened coordination between security forces and law enforcement agencies. Intelligence-driven actions in KP and Balochistan have been significantly stepped up to restrict militant mobility and dismantle their support networks.
“These coordinated measures aim to degrade the operational capability of khawarij elements and dismantle their facilitation systems,” the ISPR statement added, noting that recent operations have delivered “substantial and measurable success.”
A sanitisation operation is currently underway to clear the area of any remaining militants as part of Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee.
Rising Terror Incidents in KP
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in terrorist attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the TTP ended its ceasefire in November 2022. The group has repeatedly targeted security personnel and police stations across the region.
Earlier today, security forces also foiled an IED attack aimed at blowing up the Dawa Bridge in Bannu’s Basia Khel area.
Just a day earlier, seven people were killed when militants attacked a peace committee office in Bannu. According to police, one of the victims was a former militant who had previously surrendered to the state.
