India sealed the India vs Australia T20 Series 2025 with a strong 2-1 victory after the final match at the Gabba was abandoned due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The fifth T20 began positively for India. After being sent in to bat, openers Shubman Gill (29 not out) and Abhishek Sharma (23 not out) showcased aggressive intent, taking India to 52 for no loss in just 4.5 overs. However, a sudden thunderstorm forced players off the field, and with rain refusing to ease, the match was eventually called off.
This was not the first rain interruption of the series. The opening match in Canberra was also washed out. Australia went on to win the second T20 in Melbourne, driven by a sharp spell from pacer Josh Hazlewood. With Hazlewood and other Ashes-bound players unavailable for the remaining fixtures, India gained momentum.
India bounced back confidently, winning the third T20 in Hobart by five wickets and dominating the fourth in Gold Coast with a 48-run victory.
The standout performer was Abhishek Sharma, who was named Player of the Series for scoring 163 runs at an average of 40.75.
India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav credited the entire squad for the fightback, saying that everyone contributed to the series win. Australian captain Mitch Marsh also praised the highly competitive nature of the contest.
With India currently holding the number one ranking in T20 cricket, this series win boosts their confidence ahead of defending their T20 World Cup title at home next year.
